The pigeon who was left dangling by the foot for hours after becoming entangled in anti-bird netting in Abbeywood was released today. He received treatment for bruising and swelling to the foot, as well as for dehydration and general shock, and made a full recovery.

No doubt next week will bring yet another call or message about an animal entangled in anti-bird netting. It is all over London, on blocks of flats and buildings, and it poses a constant hazard to wildlife.

No animal should die in such an inhumane manner, but until businesses, councils and housing associations start adhering to the Animal Welfare Act, they will continue to; just think of all the animals that are not reported and not rescued in time.

A happy ending for this little soul at least.
